ROBERT GIRARD ALARIE December 23, 1931- April 10, 2001 It is with heartfelt sadness that the family announce the passing of Robert at the age of 69 years, after a courageous battle with cancer at the Riverview Health Centre. Robert will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Renee (nee Poirier), whom he married on July 25, 1959; his daughters, Gisele and Yvette and his granddaughter Diana, his little angel. He is also survived by his brothers, Pat, Leo (Therese), Henri (Rachelle), Paul (Jeannette) and his sisters, Yvonne Dupont, Lillian (Jack) Wilcott and Rita (Reginald) Bernardin; mother-in-law Marie Poirier; his in-laws, Deanne Andre, Lorraine (Gerald) Moquin and Robert Poirier; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Denis on March 20, 1999; parents, Wilfred and Eugenie Alarie; his sisters, Dinah, Eva, baby Yvonne; and his brothers, Orius and Ulderic. Robert was born in Elie, Man., where he worked on the family farm until he was 25 years old. Robert was a carpenter by trade. He spent most of his early adult years working in northern communities in Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Ontario, on heavy construction. He later started his own business, R.A. Construction from 1977 to 1989, where he prided himself in work well done. Robert was a very generous person and was always helping others. He had an avid interest in square dancing. Prayer service will be held on Sunday, April 15 at 8:00 p.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church, 250 Burrin Ave. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, April 16 at 10:00 a.m., also at the church, with Rev. Fr. Terance P. McGrath officiating. The service will terminate at the church. The family wishes to thank all the VONs, home care workers, doctors, nurses and nursing assistants of Seven Oaks Hospital, St. Boniface Hospital and Riverview Health Centre for all their care and kindness extended to Robert during his illness. We would also like to thank his companions Ed, Peter and Terry and all the family and friends that supported us during this time. If friends so desire, donations may be made in Roberts memory to CancerCare Manitoba, the Arthritis Society or the Palliative Care at Riverview Health Centre. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL in care of arrangements, 586-8044.
