Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryFREDERICK BEAUCHAMP GILLINGHAM It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our husband, father, and grandfather, Fred Gillingham, at Health Sciences Centre on Wednesday, April 11, 2001. Fred will be sadly missed by his wife Jean; his daughters, Bonnie (David, Ryan and Branden Shipman), Cindy (Scott, Ashley and Holly Naherny), Lori (Jim, Jordan and Brittany Shaw). He also leaves behind his loving brother John (Helen, Carrie, Chris and Leanne) as well as two brothers-in-law, Jim Waal (Nancy, Diana and Jeff), Roy Waal (Jean, Sherrie and Brad) and cousins, Ed and Elsie Bollenback and family. He will also be remembered by numerous relatives and dear friends. Fred was born in Prince Albert, Sask. on April 26, 1933. He spent his early life in Gillam, Man. and Rainy River, Ont. He came to Winnipeg in 1952 and began his career with the Canadian National Railway. He was an electrician by trade. Later he worked as an electrical draftsman, then became a supervisor in maintenance. He retired in 1990. Fred will be remembered by his family and friends as a man who put his heart and soul into his family, his work, his sports and his hobbies. Curling was his passion. Some years he curled in five different leagues. He was on the Board of Directors for East St. Paul Curling Club and also president of Zone 9 Manitoba Curling. He loved to build. There are many cottages, garages, rec rooms, sheds, fences and decks that he helped build for family and friends. Fred was also a talented musician and played in several bands over the years. In spite of a busy life, Fred always had time for his family. He shared his building and mechanical skills with his sons-in-law, helped his wife with crafts, and taught boating and fishing skills to his grandchildren. He was always available to help, whether with his hands or his heart. One grandson referred to him as "my grandpa, the philosopher". His words of wisdom and his love will be with us always. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Freds life will be held at Green Acres Funeral Chapel, Hwy. No. 1 East and Navin Road, on Monday, April 16 at 4:00 p.m. A gathering of family and friends will follow in the Chapel Reception Centre. The family wish to thank the Emergency staff at Health Sciences Centre for their care and compassion, also our dear relatives and friends for their support and acts of kindness. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choice.
