Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARVIN (MICHAEL) PENN September 14, 1913 - April 3, 2001 Passed away peacefully April 3, 2001. He was the son of Anna and Joseph Penn. He was a broker of his own business, Penn Agencies and was a member of the Winnipeg Real Estate Board for 35 years. He was a giving person and believed in helping the community. He was past president of the St. Johns Lions Club and a member of the Winnipeg Lions Club and past president of BNai Brith Lodge 650. From 1936 to 1939 Marvin fought fascism and Hitler by joining the International Brigades in the Spanish Civil War. He served with the Abraham Lincoln Battalion and later the MacKenzie-Papineau Battalion. He participated in four major battles and survived an uphill fight against the fascists. He was an avid reader of the classics and very interested in astronomy, mathematics, music and playing chess. He loved flowers and nature. He was predeceased by his parents, brother-in-law Hy, Noble, cousin Morris Gurvey, cousins Aaron and Lillian Munitch and Jerry Glow. He is survived by his wife Irma (Rachel) sister Lillian Noble, her children Lisa Noble, Barry and Dale Noble and their children; cousins Harry and Evelyn Gurvey; Syd and Maxine Gurvey; Jerry and Bunny Gurvey and all their children and grandchildren; cousins Benny, Brest, Lonny and Sima Kaplan of L.A., Ruth Munitch and Sheila and David Bloomfield. Charitable donations may be made to the MacKenzie-Papineau Memorial Fund, 25 Waxham Road, Toronto M9W 3L4 or the Jewish War Veterans c/o The Canadian Zionist Cultural Association, Toronto Branch. Funeral services will be held at the Chesed Shel Emes Chapel, 1023 Main St., April 5, 1:00 p.m. with interment at the Shaarey Zedek Memorial Park Cemetery.
