Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN KOOPER On Thursday morning April 12, 2001, John passed away quietly, his family at his side, at the Riverview Care Facility. John Kooper, son of Hendricus Theodorus Kooper and Marie van de Starre, was born August 8, 1928 in the City of Amsterdam, the Netherlands. John was educated in Amsterdam, and from age 12 to 17 trained to be a carpenter, he took his apprenticeship at a boat/yacht building company. On August 17, 1955 he married Susan Kuldery in Amsterdam, and by October 1, 1955 they had immigrated to Winnipeg to start a new life together in Canada. John worked for many years with Prairie Millwork and Vincent Millwork as a foreman and often spoke of how he enjoyed his work, whom he worked for, and the fine people he had the pleasure to work with, in October of 1986 he retired from work. Then came new opportunities to putter around, build and expand as more and more time was enjoyed at the family cottage. John was predeceased by his daughter Marcia in September 1999. He is survived and remembered by his wife Susan, sons Gordon, Wayne, son-in-law Chris Harding, granddaughter Samantha, grandson Cameron, brother Henry (Angela) from Ontario, sisters Fie, Marie, brother-in-law Piet (Auk) Kuldery, sister-in-law Tini (Fred) Bronsveld, and numerous nieces and nephews in the Netherlands and Canada. Special thanks to Dr. Maksymiuk, Dr. Leylek, Dr. Houston, the staff and nurses at the Cancer Care Centre, the Doctors, staff and nurses at the Health Sciences Centre Floor 4e and 5e. The family would also like to thank the Riverview Care Facility, Dr. Garcia and the staff and nurses for their compassionate care of John. Special mention to Donna, Joanne and Chris of the Drivers Programme who often went above and beyond what was required to ensure Dad and Mom had a ride available, also the drivers with Mason Care who were always kind and thoughtful. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday April 18 at 1:00 p.m. at the Transcona Funeral Chapel, 1800 Day Street, Reverend Lewis van Steenkiste officiating. A reception will be held after the funeral service at the Royal Canadian Legion, Transcona Branch, 117 Regent Avenue East. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Manitoba Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 9Z9.
