YVONNE BARTEN (nee OUIMET) Suddenly, on April 13, 2001 at St. Boniface Hospital, Yvonne left us. She was 87 years old. Despite her unexpected and deeply felt passing, her special presence will continue to be felt in the hearts of all those she touched. Yvonne leaves her daughter Jeannine; her son-in-law Alban Prejet; her two sisters, Marceline Pilon (Rene), and Felixine Mailhot; her five brothers, Adrien (Helene Lapointe), Michel (Eveline Johnson), Jean-Leon (Marie Peloquin), Adelard (Simone Robert) and Cyril (Lucille Dufort) numerous nephews and nieces; her beloved grandchildren, Liette Prejet (Louis St-Cyr), Joanne Prejet (Glenn Joyal) and Lynn Prejet-Williams (Glenn Williams) her great-grandchildren, Genevieve, Janique, Eric, Marc, Sara, Sophie and Emma. Yvonne was predeceased by her husband Philippe; her parents, John and Celina (nee Hebert) her sisters, Marie-Reine (Doucet) and Simone (Caron) and her brother-in-law Paul Mailhot. Yvonne was born in Ste-Agathe on October 14, 1913. The oldest of ten children, she studied at the convent in Ste-Agathe. Following her marriage to Philippe Barten in 1935, she moved to the "La Montagne" region where she lived in Cardinal, Roseisle and Swan Lake. After her husbands death in 1955, Yvonne established herself in Winnipeg where she worked for several years at Misericordia Nursing Residence as housemother. After her official retirement, Yvonne worked at the Archbishops Residence in St-Boniface as Receptionist until May of 1999. In June 1999, Yvonne suffered a stroke, but within six months managed to overcome most of her paralysis with the aide of physiotherapy. She was once again demonstrating her strength and courage. She moved to lAccueil Colombien in December 1999 where she quickly befriended many residents. The family wishes to thank the homecare staff as well as her friends at lAccueil for their help. Yvonne was a wonderful cook and seamstress. She loved shopping and spoiling her family. Her generosity, understanding and empathy as a listener will be greatly missed. Whether in her role as Maman, Grand-maman (Grams), Meme, Yvonne or Mme Barten, one quality remained constant: her big heart. If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of MB, 301-352 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3B 2H8 or the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 2B7.
