Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryPEARL SAWKA (nee GULOWATY) Pearl Sawka, dearly beloved mother of Iris, passed away peacefully with her family at her side on Thursday, April 12, 2001, at Park Manor Personal Care Home, at the age of 88 years. Mom was born in Chatfield, Man., July 16, 1912. She was born a god-gifted seamstress. Over a span of 40 years she sewed many beautiful wedding gowns, which kept her young at heart. Along with dad, mom was a founding member of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of All Saints in Transcona. She enjoyed her many years of contributing to the church, especially her association with the ladies auxilliary, cooking and baking for fundraising. Mom and her family have been residents of Transcona since 1948. She was predeceased by her husband Alexander in 1990, her parents John and Mary Gulowaty, sister Anna Bailly, brother Peter, nieces Jane Marycusa, Natalie Zdan and nephews Peter Bailly and William Holyk. Surviving Pearl are her dearly beloved daughter, Iris and dedicated son-in-law David Ross; dearly loved grandsons, Brad (Kathy), Bryan and Brent (Tarya), as well as very dear little great-grandson, Alexander. Pearl also leaves her three sisters, Katherine Lehman of Stony Plains, Alta., Pauline Rindall of Winnipeg and Nellie Kruger of Edmonton, Alta.; brother Michael (Kay) of Vancouver, B.C., and sisters-in-law Katie Holyk and Anne Gulowaty of Winnipeg, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Prayers will be held 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 17 at the Transcona Funeral Chapel, 1800 Day St. Funeral service will take place 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 18, at the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of All Saints, 1500 Day St., with Rev. Fr. W. Wasyliw officiating. Burial to follow in the Transcona Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her three grandsons, Brad, Bryan and Brent Ross, as well as nephews, Gary Rindall, Terry Zdan and Wilfred Stephushyn. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Pearls memory to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, 301-352 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3B 2H8.
