Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryZAIDEE FRASER STODDARD Zaidee Fraser Stoddard, 101, died in Halifax on April 14, 2001. Born in Clam Harbour on November 16, 1899, she was a daughter of Janet (Archibald) and Arthur Fraser Stoddard. She began her career teaching school for four years in the Musquodoboit Valley. In 1920 she went West to teach in Saskatchewan and in 1922 she entered Manitoba College in Winnipeg to take the Deaconess Course. She graduated in 1925 and was appointed by the Home Mission Board of the United Church of Canada to Robertson Memorial Church, Winnipeg, where she remained until her retirement in 1964. She loved her work in Winnipeg which brought her in touch with many new immigrants from Europe who had settled in the citys North End. In the summers she enjoyed being a leader at the United Church Fresh Air Camps in Gimli, Man. From 1964 to 1968 she worked with seniors at Regents Park United Church also in Winnipeg. She kept in touch with her many friends in the West after she returned to Nova Scotia in 1986. Zaidee made her home at different times with her sisters, Jobie in Halifax and Marguerite in Dartmouth. She became a member of St. Johns United Church, Halifax. She had resided at Armview Estates since April 1995, where she celebrated her 100th birthday on November 16, 1999, with friends and family. In March 2000, Zaidee was honoured with a special plaque as one of the few employees of the United Church of Canada to have lived in three centuries. Zaidee was predeceased by her parents and by sisters, Grace (Mrs. Scott Burgess), Jennie (Mrs. W.C. Dowell) and Jobina "Jobie" as well as by brothers, Alfred, Fulton, Dr. Carl, Edgar and Borden Stoddard. Surviving are sister Marguerite (Mrs. Laurie R. Black), Dartmouth; brother Carmen, Halifax. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and their families. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held in St. Johns United Church, Windsor St., at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 17. Donations may be made to the Mission and Service Fund of the United Church of Canada, 3250 Bloor St. W., Etobicoke, ON M8X 2Y4 or to a charity of choice. J.A.
