WENDY KAREN WERSCH (nee MALTMAN) February 9, 1952 - April 14, 2001 It is with deep sadness and sorrow that we announce the unexpected passing of our beloved Wendy. On April 14, 2001 in the peace of her home, after a long and courageous battle with lung disease. Wendy was born on February 9, 1952 in Winnipeg and graduated from Miles Macdonell Collegiate in 1970. Wendy started her banking career shortly after graduating high school. She then took a short sabbatical to start a family and to follow her husband Gerrys career move to London, ON for a short while. Returning to Winnipeg in 1981 with their two small children, Courtney and Alison, and embarked on a Fine Arts program at the University of Manitoba and graduated in 1993 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts, Honours degree. Wendy was involved in the local arts circle, as her health would permit. She served on several boards and was involved with Mentoring Artists for Womens Art, which she supported. Her creative and inspirational installation art exhibits were shown locally and some abroad. In addition to Wendys art career she enjoyed many special times at the family cottage in Minaki, ON - "Pistol Lake". With all her local friends and family, and when she was not thinking art or lake life it was the next family vacation. One of her highlights was a visit to Italy in May of 2000 to see the art and sculptures she studied, a dream come true. Wendy was a loving, caring and happy person who enjoyed life, friends and family with gusto. Her practice in Yoga helped her with some difficult times and challenged her in good times. Her two special angels were daughters, Courtney and Alison, who she gave constant guidance, love and reassurance. Wendy will be lovingly remembered by her husband of nearly 30 years, Gerry; daughters, Courtney (Claude Thorimbert), Alison Wersch; father William Maltman, (Pat), mother Marie Maltman; brother Larry, (Judy) Maltman, and brother Ron (Shirley) Maltman; sister Judy (Wayne Oldfield), sister Roxanne (Dave Weiler) and countless uncles, aunts, nieces and nephews, and special friend Judy Haid and other friends and family members who shared their time with us. The family wishes to thank the nurses, staff and doctors of the Emergency Department of the Victoria Hospital for their wonderful care and efforts, and our dear relatives and many friends for their support and love. A Celebration of Wendys Life will take place on Saturday, April 21 at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. (south of the Royal Canadian Mint). A gathering of family and friends will follow in the reception centre. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Manitoba Lung Association, 629 McDermot St., Winnipeg, MB R3A 1P6, in memory of Wendy Wersch. A daughter, a sister, a wife and mother Was independent and knew how to be no other A loving woman who took pride in her art, So many so sad to see her depart. In a better place, she is at peace now, No more pain will her body allow. To have kept her here would have been selfish, So we pray for her and send her this wish. May your spirit be at peace and your mind be free, And well look toward the future happily. When one day soon we will meet again, Take care dear one, until we see you then. We Love You.
