RUTH ELENOR BARBER (nee TAYLOR) On Good Friday, surrounded by the love and comfort of her daughter, son and grandchildren all by her side, our beloved mother and grandmother, Ruth, passed away peacefully at the Charleswood Care Centre. Ruth was predeceased by her beloved husband Jack and her brother Bill Taylor. Ruth is survived by her sister Marion Whalley; her son Terry Barber (Reta) her daughter Lesley Rempel (George) and her grandchildren, Lance Barber (Lynne), Miles Barber (Valerie), Roger Rempel (Marlene), Gordon Rempel (Karen), Kristin Rempel (Brian) and her great-grandchildren, Jack, Laura, Emily, Ryan, Brendan and Jordan, as well as many nieces and nephews. Ruth was born December 2, 1910 in Winnipeg. She was always of keen mind, with a passion for learning and most importantly, a love of books that led her to serve as a Librarian at the Cornish Library in Winnipeg. Ruth married her high-school sweetheart, Jack, in 1931 and their special and loving relationship lasted throughout their 56 years of marriage until Jacks death. As Ruth entered married life with Jack, she continued to explore her many passions and interests. Ruth was a founding member of the Daughters of the Nile and recently received her 50-year commemoration of service with the Khartum Ladies Auxiliary. Ruth was active in bowling and her Bridge Club provided her with friendships that lasted a lifetime. Ruth and Jack shared many years of wonderful memories, particularly enjoying their home away from home in Hawaii. As Ruth entered her seventies, she faced challenges to her health, most significant was deterioration in her eyesight. Ruths love of books overcame this obstacle, as she continued to enjoy "talking books" through the CNIB and continued to "see" the world through a very sharp and informed mind. Ruth was always willing to share her life experiences with her grandchildren and had a particular flare for bringing her history to life for all who expressed interest. Ruths presence was a gift in the lives of those who knew her. Ruth loved to spend time with her grandchildren and later, treasured the times spent with her great-grandchildren. In her final years, Ruth fought Alzheimers disease with extreme dignity. The family has fond memories of how Ruth glowed, talked, and smiled in the presence of her entire family as they gathered to celebrate her 90th birthday. Ruths family would like to express sincere thanks for the loving kindness shown by the Charleswood Care Centre and a special thanks to Linda and Ellen, with whom Ruth shared a special bond. At Ruths request, a private family celebration of her life, officiated by Rev. Terry Hidichuk and Janet Walker, has taken place Friday, April 20. Flowers are respectfully declined. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ruths memory can be made to her favourite charity, the Canadian Diabetes Association, at 102-310 Broadway, Winnipeg, MB, R3C 0S6. THOMSON FUNERAL CHAPELS 783-7211
