VICTORIA PERCHALUK (nee SMIGELSKI) It is with deepest sadness and sorrow that we announce the passing of our mother after a courageous battle with cancer, on April 16, 2001 at the age of 63 years. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Karen (Gary) and Stasha (Daryl) and grandchildren, Corey, Justin, Darcy and Dazzel. Also surviving are her many brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews and other relatives. Mom was born in Boulton, MB on September 7, 1937 and grew up in the Roblin district in a family of 16. She returned to Roblin after obtaining her certificate to operate her own hairdressing shop. She later settled in Brandon, where she continued to actively partake in the Orthodox Church and the Shumka dance group. It meant so much to Mom to keep her traditions alive and to teach the younger generation the importance of her culture. In 1989, Mom pursued a second career as a Nurses Aide for CPL. She loved and enjoyed her work as she was known for her kindness and healing touch. Mom will always be with us in our memories as a devoted mother, grandmother, friend and co-worker. Each of us will share our own special memories. We will all treasure her warm and generous nature, gentle sense of humour and especially her care and concern for others. She had a way of always making people laugh and was a good listener, who gave advice and words of wisdom when needed most. Her enjoyment in family gatherings and holidays will carry on in our future celebrations as we remember all the extra touches she provided to make sure our times together were special. All of us who had the opportunity to be with Mom during her illness, experienced first hand her strength of character and courage and admire her unfailing dignity, grace under pressure, humour and utter lack of self pity. Mom will be fondly remembered and missed by her family and close friends whose remarkable spirit will stay with us forever. A celebration of Moms life will be held on Friday, April 20 at 11:30 a.m. in the Leatherdale Gardiner Funeral Chapel, 1858 Portage Ave. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to Louis Daserean, Dr. G. Breakman and Dr. Degroot. We would also like to give our utmost appreciation to Kay Jackson, Margret Garrett, and Georgina Yurchuk for all their support. Should friends so desire, donations in Vickys memory may be made to the CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9 or the Autism Society, 825 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3A 1M5. A Mothers Farewell To Her Children When I must leave you for a little while, Please do not grieve and shed wild tears. And hug your sorrow to you through the years, But start out bravely with a gallant smile. And for my sake and in my name, Live on and do all things the same, Feed not your loneliness on empty days, But fill each waking hour in useful ways. Reach out your hand in comfort and in cheer, And I in turn will comfort you and hold you near. And never, never be afraid to die, For I am waiting for you in the sky.
