Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGREGORY VANSTON DOBBIN After a valiant fight to stay with us for as long as he could, it is with deepest sorrow that we announce the death of Gregory Vanston Dobbin of Lavenham, Manitoba on April 15, 2001, at the age of 54. Left to mourn his passing and cherish his memory are his wife and partner Lynda and son Shane of Lavenham; his daughter Cher Dobbin (Vaughn) of Portage; father Delmer (Shirley) Dobbin of Winnipeg; and sister Dana. He also leaves father-in-law Jim and mother-in-law Vera Dickson of Rossendale; sister-in-law Joanne and Jeff Watson of Rossendale; brother-in-law Michael Dickson (Carol) of 70 Mile House, BC., favourite nieces, Jamie and Michelle and nephew Richard and special "nephew" Jason as well as aunts, Vaneen Hooey and Bernice Dobbin. Greg was predeceased by his Mother Doris (Duchene) Dobbin. Born in Quebec City on September 14, 1946, Greg received his education in Lavenham and Treherne. Upon finishing school Greg pursued a career in the automobile industry where he was probably best known for his years at Greg Dobbin Chev Olds in Treherne, but his first love was always farming. He particularly loved the livestock side of farming and was always thrilled to see a calf take that first breath. Greg was always happiest when he was working and could see the "wheels turning" although he always enjoyed time spent quietly at home with family and friends, or with his extended family at West Hawk Lake. Greg had a gift for empowering those closest to him. He had a way of convincing us that there wasnt anything we couldnt do as he gave us faith in ourselves through his faith in us. That gift will live on in all of us. Donations in Gregs memory may be made to The Rehabilitation Centre for Children Foundation, 633 Wellington Cres., Winnipeg, MB, R3M 0A8. At Gregs request cremation has taken place, and no formal funeral service will be held at this time. He asked instead that a memorial to celebrate his life be held at the Dobbin farm at a later date. That service will take place on Sunday, June 3 at 2:00 p.m. All friends and family are invited to attend. At this time the family would like to thank everyone who did so much for Greg this past year. The visits, cards and calls meant more to him than youll know. We also need to thank our wonderful staff for the job theyve done keeping things going so smoothly at home when our battle took us elsewhere. A special thank you to the wonderful nurses at Portage Hospital who manage to show compassion and caring even under the most stressful circumstances. To Dr. Kinnear and Dr. Ross. Thanks to Maxine for being there for us. And a special Thank you to Debbie in chemo, the only person I know who could make chemotherapy something a fella could look forward to. I know you walk these hills beside me, Sometimes I swear I hear you speak, I feel you gently brush my hair back, While we rest at Winstons Peak. We see the land you loved so dearly, and watch the river roll below, And I sense your smile surround me, when the cattle gently low. Im glad you left our valley knowing, that you will always be a part, Of this place you always cherished, carried safely in my heart. I have purchased trucks from Gregg at Greg Dobin Chev Olds. Greg was just an awesome guy to deal with, he went out of his way to make sure his customer was happy. I did another deal with him again and the same great treatment. What a loss. I would appreciate a call from his family, I know that he passed years ago, but I was going to reach out to him and found his obit. My condolences to all family.
