JOHN TERENCE (JACK) HARRIS John Terence (Jack) Harris, originally of Winnipeg, Manitoba, died peacefully on April 14, 2001 at Lions Gate Hospital in North Vancouver, BC., following a lengthy pulmonary illness. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 58 years, Frances May and his three daughters, Judith Shantz and husband Philip of Bellingham, Washington, Susan Foster and husband Bill of White Rock, BC and Jillian McKelvey and husband Peter of Mississauga, ON. He is also survived by his six grandchildren, Elizabeth Feingold, Christopher and Jonathan Ditto, and Timothy, Jaime and Megan McKelvey, and three great-grandchildren, Jordan Erlandson, Jacob Feingold and Julia Ditto. During The Second World War, Jack was a pilot (Flight Lieutenant) in the RCAF, serving with the British Commonwealth Flight Training Plan as a flying instructor for pilots from the various commonwealth countries. At the end of the war, he returned to work for the St. Paul Fire and Marine Insurance Co., where he remained for his entire business career of 47 years. In 1965 he moved to Vancouver and the last 19 years before his retirement were spent as manager of the British Columbia branch. Along with a love of flying, Jack was a polished raconteur and had a fine gift for language. He took great delight in both reading and writing clever verse, often composing humorous pieces to mark special events for family and friends. He thoroughly enjoyed fine cuisine and was a member of the Chaine des Rotisseurs. After his retirement he was able to travel extensively with his wife throughout North America and abroad. A memorial service will be held at St. Christophers Anglican Church, West Vancouver on April 20 at 2 p.m. Flowers gratefully declined but for those who wish, a contribution to their favourite charity would be appreciated.
