JOE WIEBE On Tuesday, April 17, 2001, Joe Wiebe, age 91 went to be with Jesus whom he loved and served. After their graduation from Winnipeg Bible College (now Providence College) Joe and his wife, Marie, dedicated their lives to serving God. This service took expression in their establishing churches in Stuartburn and Marne District. Joe loved to sing and for a number of years he was part of a male quartet that served in churches and at evangelistic meetings in southeastern Manitoba. Joe also was an active supporter of the Canadian Sunday School Mission and its camp work. Joe served in a variety of leadership roles in churches and home Bible study groups in Ashern, Clarkleigh, Steinbach, Lindal, Snowflake, Winnipegosis and Winnipeg. In more recent years, Joes unique gift of personal visitation allowed him to bring comfort and hope to many hundreds of people in hospitals and care homes. After a serious stroke in 1992, Joes work was slowed considerably, but his positive outlook and faith continued to be a source of inspiration to his family and many friends. Joe was predeceased by his wife Marie in 1985; daughter Eunice in 1968; daughter-in-law Margaret in 1994; five brothers and four sisters. He is survived by his son-in-law Henry Toews (Elizabeth) children, Ruth, Lois (Henry) Wedel, Phillip (Shirley), David (Valerie), Janet Panford; sisters, Katherine Penner and Mary Toews; fifteen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank the staff of Donwood Manor for their outstanding and loving care of Joe. We also thank Dr. Ray Martens for his warmth and professional care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Manitoba Mennonite Brethren Missions and Church Extension, 225 Riverton Avenue, Winnipeg R2L 0N1. The funeral service will be held on Friday, April 20 at 10:30 a.m. at the Westwood Community Church, 401 Westwood Drive. Interment to follow in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. Viewing Thursday from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Westwood Community Church. Arrangements entrusted to Klassen Funeral Chapel, 338-0331.
