Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryPAUL WOWK The Wowk family announces the passing of our beloved brother, father and grandfather, Paul Wowk, on April 17, 2001 at the St. Boniface Hospital, after a battle with lung cancer. Paul was born in Ukraine on September 1, 1925. He moved with his family at the age of four to Ste. Annes, MB and then the Carman area until the Second World War. After serving in the Canadian Armed Forces during the war, he briefly farmed near Carman and worked in Arborg, MB. In 1954 he joined the Gillis Quarries Ltd. of Winnipeg where he worked for 21 years. In 1975 he joined the City of Winnipeg, Works and Operations Department where he worked for another decade before retiring. In 1954 Paul married Dina (Dianne) Tober. In 1965 they moved into their home on Aberdeen Avenue in Winnipegs North End, where they raised two sons, Ron and Brian. Paul remained there until the passing of Dina in 1991. Paul was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman. He was also a highly skilled handyman and spent his later years renovating his cottage in Elphinstone, MB. He will be remembered as a loving father and good friend by his family, co-workers and many friends. He was predeceased by his father Konstantin (1945), mother Evadokia (1977), brother Nick (1946), and sister Mary (1985). He is survived by his two sons, Brian (wife Deb, grandchildren, Camille and Connor) of Corona, CA, and Ron (wife Donna, grandchildren, Ryan and Dustin) of Winnipeg. He also leaves sisters, Olga of Winnipeg and Anne Chyzy of Arborg; nephews, Nick and George Chyzy of Arborg; and niece Margie Lichtie of Ottawa, ON. A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 20 at 11:00 a.m. in Green Acres Funeral Chapel, Hwy. No. 1 East at Green Acres Lane, with Rev. Deacon Michael Woroby officiating. A reception will follow in the Heritage Room at Green Acres Funeral Chapel. The family wishes to thank the staff of CancerCare Manitoba, and the St. Boniface Hospital Palliative Care Unit.
