EVANGELINE (LINA) ARTES Peacefully on Thursday, April 19, 2001, at her home Lina passed away at the age of 91 years. Lina was the beloved mother of Irene (Robert) Hedlin and Robert (Margaret) Artes; step-grandmother of Karl, Hugh and Nancy and aunt of Valentine Janzen and family. Besides her family in Winnipeg, she leaves to mourn sister Sara Kinzel and family and niece Lily Regehr in Germany and niece Lyubov Udovenko and family in Russia. She was predeceased by her husband Walter in 1982. She was born on July 15, 1909 in Halbstadt, Ukraine, daughter of Gustav and Evangeline Rempel (nee Dirks). Lina married in 1931 and in 1936 she and Walter graduated from medical college in the Ukraine. They immigrated to Canada in 1948. Lina was baptized on confession of faith in Jesus Christ, who said: "I am the way and the truth and the life" (John 14:6). She trusted in Him and was always cheerful and thankful. Her baptismal verse was: "Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is Gods will for you in Christ Jesus" (I Thessalonians 5:16) Linas Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, April 24 at 2:00 p.m. in Epiphany Lutheran Church, 200 Dalhousie Dr. with Pastor Ed Mitchler officiating. Interment will follow in Garry Memorial Park, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. Pallbearers will be Hugh Hedlin, Jonathan Hedlin, Andrew Hedlin, Dave Waldie, Alex Janzen and Werner Janzen.
