WILLIAM (BILL) HARDY COTTER On Thursday, April 19, 2001 at St. Boniface Hospital, Bill passed away peacefully with his family by his side. Bill is survived by his wife Millie of 64 years; daughter Pat (Aldo) of Winnipeg; son John (Lorraine) of Vancouver; granddaughter Sandra (Allan) Miazga; great-grandsons, Colin and Daniel of Calgary; nieces, nephews and Lil in England. He was predeceased by his parents, two sisters, two brothers of England and grandson Donald of Winnipeg. Bill was born May 7, 1913 in London, England. He served in the 8th Army Infantry Essex Regiment overseas for five years, wounded twice. In 1953 he brought his family to Canada and made his home in Winnipeg, where he had lived in East Kildonan ever since. He worked as a truck driver for Eatons until his retirement. In 1955 he became a very active member of the Imperial Veterans Legion No. 84. He was on the Executive Board, then made President. He was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal for "Outstanding Devotion to the Arms and Object" from the Royal Canadian Legion. In 1956, Bill joined the Winnipeg Irish Association and had many fond memories from that association. He was accepted into the Fort Osborne Lodge No. 144, then into the Khartum Temple (Chanters) of Winnipeg. He became a permanent contributing member of the Shrine Hospital for Crippled Children. He was made a Honourary Life Member of the Manitoba Veteran Dart Association. Bill had a full life with his family and friends. Thank you to Fort Rouge Legion and everyone for helping. We the family would like to thank the nursing staff at St. Boniface Hospital for the care you gave Bill, Dad. A special Thanks from Millie goes to Dr. S. Houch and April. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 26 at 11:00 a.m. at Neil Bardal Inc., 984 Portage Avenue, entrance on Aubrey Street.
