LEONA Y. MATCHETT On April 18, 2001, Leona Matchett passed away at Oakview Place in Winnipeg. Leona was born in North Battleford, SK, December 9, 1907 and received early education in Saskatchewan, where her father, the Rev. Dr. Rothwell served as a minister. In 1928 she graduated from Wesley College, Winnipeg, with the BA degree and attended the University of Saskatchewan where she earned her Bach. of Ed. Degree. She taught in Regina College and Central Collegiate, Regina and was a Math teacher in Minnedosa and Pine Falls. In 1932 she married Rev. C. S. Matchett, BA., BD., D.D, a classmate in Arts, 1928. In subsequent years, she played an active and influential role in the life of the church and community as she lived in Sherridon, Roblin, Rosedale United Church, Winnipeg, Souris, Minnedosa and Pine Falls. Following Cliffs retirement in 1971, they made their home in Winnipeg. They spent over 20 winters in Weslaco, Texas at Magic Valley and Pine to Palm. Cliff passed away December 27, 1992 in Texas. For the past four years Leona enjoyed living in The Wellington where she had many hours of friendship and activities. Music was a large part of Leonas life and not only was she a good pianist, she also played the coronet and trombone. Crafts were a true love in her life and she was skilled in whatever she tried. Leona is survived by her three daughters, Shirley (Malcolm) Macdonald of Brandon, Joan (Russ) Brown of Delta, BC, and Rae (Bob) Warburton of Poplar Point; six granddaughters, Susan Fowler, Brandon, Sandra (Brian) Duncan, Dryden, Ontario, Leslie (Morgan) Thomas, Surrey, B.C., Diane (Blair) Walters, New Westminster, B.C., Dawn (Mike) Atwell of Toronto, Ontario, Kim Warburton, Winnipeg, as well as six great-grandchildren. Leona is survived by one brother Warren (Cathy) Rothwell of Naples, Florida. She was predeceased by her three sisters, Eleanor Collins of Regina, SK., Helene Rothwell of Toronto, Ontario and Glenna la Forty of Brockville, Ontario. Flowers are gratefully declined. If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Westworth United Church, Winnipeg or to a charity of choice. As cremation has taken place there will be a celebration of life on April 28, at 3:00 p.m. at Westworth United Church. Lunch and a time of fellowship to follow. THOMSON FUNERAL CHAPELS 783-7211
