NICK SAWKA It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of Nicholas Sawka after a brief illness on Thursday, April 19, 2001 at the Concordia General Hospital at the age of 84 years. He will be forever treasured and deeply missed by his daughter Barbara and son-in-law Edward; sisters, Sylvia and Helen; brothers, Henry, William and Charlie and by many nieces and nephews. Nick was predeceased by his loving wife Helen; parents, Micheal and Annie; sisters, Margaret and Rose and by brother Frank. Nick served in the Air Force during the Second World War and worked for the City of Winnipeg as a Transit Bus Driver for 37 years. His greatest enjoyment was when he pioneered the opening of the Betula Lake, where he spent over 40 years at his cottage with his family and friends. He loved his trips to Las Vegas, visits with his brother Henry and took great pride in his house on Greene Avenue. Cremation has taken place and a private service will be held. Family and friends are asked to attend a gathering to celebrate Dads life on Monday, April 23 at 2:00 p.m. at 532 Greene Avenue. Special thanks are extended to the nurses and staff at Concordia Hospital for the care and attention they gave Dad. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dads memory to the Concordia Hospital Foundation, 1095 Concordia Ave., Winnipeg, Manitoba, R2K 3S8.
