Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryALVIN SIGURGEIR HELGASON (PUTTS) Peacefully on April 21, 2001, after a short battle with cancer, Alvin passed away at the age of 69 years. Alvin was born April 29, 1931, in Ashern to Herman and Freda Helgason. Alvin and Olive were married May 20, 1961. The one true light of his life arrived in February 1968his son Darryl and then his granddaughter Jaimie Leigh, June 8, 1993. Alvin started into carpentry with his dad at an early age and continued working on construction in Thompson, Kenora, Dryden, Ear Falls, Vancouver and C.F.B. Gypsumville from 1973 to when the base closed in 1986. Besides his wife Olive, he leaves to mourn his son Darryl (Melody) granddaughter Jaimie Leigh; two brothers, Marvin and Elmo (Betty) two nieces, Heather (Brent) and their children, Mike, Tiffany, Stephanie, and Ashleigh; Robin (Bill) and their children, Leigh and Leifur; one nephew Randy (April) and their children, Cody and Shayna. The family wishes to thank Dr. Lee Isaacs and all the staff at the Ashern Personal Care Home for all their care, love and support. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 28 at 2:00 p.m. in the Grace Lutheran Church, Ashern, Man., with Rev. Donna Smalley officiating. A luncheon will follow at the Ashern Legion Hall. Interment in the Silver Bay Cemetery at a later date. Everyone in attendance can consider themselves as honorary pallbearers.
