HELEN FURGALE It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother Helen Furgale, peacefully at home on April 21, 2001. Helen was predeceased by her husband Timothy in 1992. She will be lovingly remembered by her six children, Eleanor Page, Barbara (Peter Freeman), Christopher (Leesa), Mary Elizabeth (Ross Robbins), James (Liv), Helen (Bruce Brautigan). Her 12 grandchildren, Jonathan, Mark, Jacqueline and Kevin, Sarah, Paul and Samantha, Kate, MaryTess and Matthew, Michael and Emma and her three great-grandchildren, Stephanie, Timothy and Ashley. She is also survived by her devoted sister Beth and husband John Pedora and her cherished friend Ernie Garrett. Over her lifetime, Helen was very active in the Winnipeg community. She served as co-chair of the Community Chest (United Way) and was President of the St. Boniface General Hospital Ladies Guild. She also did volunteer work with several charities involving children at the St. Amant Centre and wives of Stoney Mountain prisoners. She and her husband Timothy were involved in the establishment of the Christian Family Movement in Western Canada, and the Villa Maria Retreat House in St. Norbert. Helen generously gave of her time to St. Marys Academy, St. Pauls High School and St. John Brebeuf CWL. For many years, it was her pleasure to host an annual Christmas dinner party for the St. John Brebeuf church choir. Mothers greatest joy, above all, was her family. As the "heart" of our home, all were welcomed. She touched the life of every person she knew with her gentle and loving spirit. She will be fondly remembered for her zest for LIFE! Prayers will be held on Monday, April 23 at 7:00 p.m. in the Leatherdale Gardiner Funeral Chapel, 1501 Waverley Street. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by our dear family friend, Father Terry Fay S.J. on Tuesday, April 24 at 9:30 a.m. in St. Ignatius Church, Stafford and Corydon. Interment at Assumption Cemetery to follow. The pallbearers will be Helens grandchildren. Special thanks to all of Mothers caregivers.
