BERTRAM FLETCHER Bertram Fletcher, born Winnipeg on August 21, 1920, died in Victoria, B.C. April 19, 2001, in his wifes arms. Predeceased by his brother Bob. Served in the Royal Canadian Navy 1940 to 1945, reaching the rank of Chief Petty Officer. Joined the Winnipeg Police Force on return and retired in 1980. Moved to Sidney, B.C. in 1989 when his wife retired and enjoyed the small town atmosphere and amenities until progressive illnesses prevented him from getting out. He was a member of the Chiefs and Petty Officers Association, the Royal Canadian Legion and the Retired Peace Officers of Manitoba. He leaves to mourn his loving wife Gwen and daughter Debbie, brother Phil (Esther) of Nanaimo, sister-in-law Thelma of Winnipeg, son Rev. Ron Fletcher of Kerobert, Sask., and twin daughters, Linda and Heather, of Manitoba. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 25 at 2:00 p.m. at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, West Saanich Road and Mills Road, North Saanich. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Winnipeg Police Museum, 130 Allard Ave., Winnipeg, Man. R3K 0T4; the Canadian Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 4136 STN Terminal, Vancouver, B.C.
