Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRAYMOND HENRY (HARRY) SLOAN It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Harry Sloan, beloved husband, father and grandfather, at Deer Lodge Centre, on April 22, 2001. Harry will be lovingly remembered by his beloved wife of 54 years, Marguerite; son Alan (Brenda) of Morden; daughters, Jane Penston (Bob) of Montreal, Laura Fras (Bishu) of Edmonton and Brenda Stewart (Darrell) of Winnipeg; grandchildren, Jennifer (Jason), Jeff and Craig Penston, Tyler and Reid Sloan, Alan, Anna and Vanessa Stewart; brother Alex (Helen) of Abbotsford, B.C. and sisters, Peggy Carr of New Westminster, B.C. and Winnie Carr of Regina, Sask. He was predeceased by his parents and brothers, George and Bill. Harry was born March 30, 1921 in Clair, Sask., youngest son of Alexander and Jane Sloan. He moved to Winnipeg in 1936 where he attended school and commercial college. He was employed by Simmons Limited of Winnipeg for several years. He joined the Great-West Life Assurance Company in 1950 and was with that firm for over 36 years. At the time of his retirement in 1986, he was a Vice-President of the companys United States headquarters at Denver, Colorado. Harry also served overseas for three years during the Second World War as a member of the Royal Canadian Air Force. A kind and generous man, Harry always had time for those who sought his wisdom and foresight. Never was an angry word shared or voice raised. Those who benefited from his wise and patient interactions were forever impacted in a profound manner. A man who was well read, with a subtle sense of humour, he provided insightful commentary on the world around him, while at the same time welcoming the views of others. Never one to complain of the physical limitations he endured, he was an example to us all, to live each day as a gift and relish each minute we are all given. Thank you Harry...husband, father, grandfather, uncle, friend and mentor. The family is very appreciative of the compassionate care given to Harry during his time at Deer Lodge Centre. The staff of 2 West is outstanding. Thank you. Following cremation, a private family interment will take place at the Clubb family plot at Morris, Man. A memorial service will be held at St. Pauls Anglican Church, Fort Garry, on Thursday, April 26 at 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 301 - 352 Donald St., Winnipeg, Man., R3B 2H8 or a charity of choice.
