CAROL GIRARD Surrounded by her family, Carol Girard passed away peacefully on Monday, April 23, 2001, at the Grace Hospital. Carol will be lovingly remembered by her husband Rene; her four daughters, Monica (Dale) Ferleyko of Edmonton, Karen (Dave) Girard-Dreilich, Candice Girard and Jennifer Girard; two grandchildren, Jessica and Steven Ferleyko and soon to be expected third grandchild; aunt Blanche Muron (Picard) brother Laurent (Yvette) Houde and three sisters, Bernice (Omer) Rivard, Gertie (Johnny) Johnson, Genieve (John) Fast; sisters-in-law, Maureen Houde and Estelle Beaudette as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by Renes brothers and sisters and their families along with many dear friends. Carol was predeceased by her father Alphonse in 1971 and her mother Gladys (Picard) in 1997; five brothers, Walter and Maurice in 1930, Maurice in 1951, Harold in 1956 and Robert in 1998. Carol was born on March 24, 1944. For the past eleven and a half years, Carol fought a courageous battle with cancer. Her laughter, enthusiasm and positive outlook on life was an inspiration to all. She lived each day to the fullest, never complaining of her illness but rather feeling blessed with all the friends she had and the new ones made during her illness. Vigil for the deceased will be held Thursday, April 26 at 7:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, April 27 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Eustache Roman Catholic Church in St. Eustache with Rev. Father Albert Lafreniere as celebrant. Viewing will take place prior to mass at 1:00 p.m. Rite of committal will follow in the Queen of Heaven Mausoleum in Assumption Roman Catholic Cemetery at a later date. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to all the staff on the 4th floor at the Grace Hospital and to Dr. Brandis and staff at Cancer Care in Health Sciences Centre for the special care and support given to Carol. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Carols memory to the Palliative Care Unit, Grace General Hospital, 300 Booth Dr., Winnipeg, Man., R3J 3M7, or to CancerCare Manitoba, ON109 - 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, Man., R3E 0V9.
