PAUL KRISTALOVICH After a lengthy illness with cancer Paul Kristalovich passed away on April 22, 2001 at Grace Hospital. Born July 17, 1916 in Sandy Lake, Manitoba. Son of Joseph and Mary Kristalovich (nee Duchominsky). He married Helen Koroscil on March 6, 1948 at Holy Ghost Church in Sandy Lake by Father Gregory Hryhorichuk. He will be forever treasured and deeply missed by his loving wife Helen of 53 years; his three children, Jean Hager, Sioux Narrows, Ont., David Kristalovich, Sonia and Jill, Winnipeg, Man. and Lorrie Brown, Ken, Kelowna, B.C.; two grandchildren, Dean and Dawn Hager, Sioux Narrows, Ont. Predeceased by his parents, brothers, sisters and son-in-law Joseph Kristalovich, Sept. 5, 1969; Mary Kristalovich (Duchominsky), Jan. 16, 1969; sisters, Edith and Helen; brothers, Mike, Sam and Zenon; son-in-law Ken Hager. He is survived by sisters, Teenie Pastershank of Minnedosa, Natalie Ukrainec of Wpg., Donald Kristalovich of Wpg., Eugene and Joan Kristalovich of Toronto, Ont., Lavinia and Alec Gerelius of Toronto, Ont., Regina Pankiw of Grande Prairie, AB, Nick and Hattie Kristalovich of Kenora, Ont., Joe and Carol Kristalovich of Whitehorse, NWT and many nieces and nephews. Paul attended elementary school at Martindale School until seventh grade. At the age of 19, he left home to work on a farm by Newdale, Manitoba for five years. In 1939, after war commenced, he traveled to Thunder Bay to work for the war industry at Northern Engineering making anti-aircraft shells. In early 1945 when the war ended Paul bought a small hotel in Napinka, Man. After a short stint in the hotel industry, he moved to Winnipeg and worked for Dominion Food Store for 11 years. Following this he worked for Winnipeg School Division No. 1 for 25 years and retired at the age of 65. A devoted parishioner, Paul belonged to the Ukranian Catholic Churches of St. Vladimir & Olga, Christ the King. In 1951 Father Melnyk began organizing the new parish of St. Josaphat where Paul became a member for 30 years holding various positions on church committees. Following his move in 1973 to Buffie Bay he joined the parish of St. Basils. Paul had a great love of the outdoors and one of his favourite pastimes was pickerel fishing in Manitoba and Ontario, and salmon fishing in British Columbia. He will be fondly remembered for his friendly bantering and teasing manner, his generosity and willingness to help out family and friends. Paul was an avid gardener and card player, enjoying numerous games of cribbage and whist with his friends while trading stories. A special thank you to Dr. Harris, the staff of the Cancer Clinic, and the staff of 4 West at the Grace Hospital for their support and compassion. Prayers will be held at St. Basils Church, 202 Harcourt St. on April 27 at 8:00 p.m. Mass will be held at St. Basils Church on April 28 at 9:30 a.m. with Father Isidore Dziadyk O.S.B.M. officiating. A private family interment service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Cancer Care Manitoba, ON109-675 McDermot Ave, Wpg, MB R3E 0V9.
