Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryANNIE REID HARPER 1897 - 2001 Peacefully, on April 24, 2001, Ann Harper passed away at Oakview Place Nursing Home at the age of 103. She was born in Ottawa (Hintonburgh) on August 12, 1897, the second daughter of Robert and Alda McCormick. Ann was brought up in Quebec and Manitoba. She became a school teacher in 1918, teaching in schools in Manitoba and Saskatchewan. On Christmas Day 1926, she married Murray Harper of Grandview. She and her husband lived in Darlingford, MB. After her husbands death in 1938 she returned to teaching, devoting her considerable ability and energy in schools in Cooks Creek, Rose Valley, Thornhill and Carman. In 1948 she joined the teaching staff of the St. James City School Board as a Primary teacher. A specialist in Primary Methods, she also instructed Primary School Courses given by the Manitoba Department of Education Summer Schools for 11 years. In 1959 she was appointed a Primary Consultant for the St. James School Board, in which capacity she remained until her retirement in 1963. Ann Harper was known as a dedicated, innovative and compassionate teacher and the many pupils who passed through her care will remember the joy of learning with her. After retirement she moved to Switzerland to be with her daughter and family. With the exception of a couple of years back in Canada, she resided in Switzerland and Liechtenstein until the fall of 1987 when she returned to Canada to Oakview Place Nursing Home in Winnipeg. Ann was predeceased by her parents; husband Murray; sister Alice and brothers, Hector and Reid. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her daughter Thelma and son-in-law Cyrill Sekerka-Bajbus of Winnipeg, her beloved grandsons, Michael with Anne Marie of Ottawa, Peter in Liechtenstein and great-granddaughter Keelin. She will be remembered as a caring and loving mother, mother-in-law and grandmother who, by her own example, taught all of us many excellent values. The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of Oakview Place Nursing Home for the many years of dedicated care and loving compassion. A funeral service will be held on Friday, April 27 at 10:00 a.m. in the Leatherdale Gardiner Funeral Chapel, 1858 Portage Ave. Interment will be beside her husband in Darlingford Cemetery.
