Prior to 1951 John was a logger in the Manigotagan, Fisher Branch, Birch Point area where he supplied lumber to Brown & Rutherford that assisted in the building of Winnipeg. He worked many years for INAC setting up saw mills on almost every northern reserve that enabled people to cut their own lumber and build their own homes. When Manitoba began to put fire rangers into communities John was one of the first serving rangers in the 1930s. He also worked in uranium mines in Eldorado and helped to build the Gunnar and Bissett mine headframes and later supplied lumber to the mines. John was a good storyteller and fiddle player and spent hours playing at house dances throughout the North where everyone was a friend. Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Hi, I am Ryerson's great-granddaughter and am starting to research my family tree. I was looking through the obits and came across this one for John. Mary-Jane Boulette would be my great-grandmother, which would make John my great uncle (I believe). I would love to connect further, but I understand if that's not the best right now. Best wishes, Kayla Bumstead - Posted by: Kayla Bumstead (Family) on: Oct 19, 2020
