Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryCLIFFORD BRIAN HORTON 1939 - 2001 Peacefully on Monday, April 30, 2001, with his daughter at his side, Brian passed away at the age of 61 years. Brian is survived by his children, his best pal Brent (Michelle), and his best gal Brenda; mother Jean Clark; sister Maureen Kennedy (George) and nieces, Colleen, Lisa and Kathryn. Brian was born in Winnipeg in 1939 and spent his childhood in the West End. He earned a Bachelor of Physical Education degree from the University of Manitoba and a Master of Sciences from Pennsylvania State University. On his return to Winnipeg, Brian became the first executive director of the Manitoba Sports Federation and held that position for seven years. During that time, Brian made a significant contribution to sport in Manitoba and was frequently recognized for his outstanding achievements. Throughout the rest of his working career, Brian used his entrepreneurial spirit in a variety of business ventures. Brian was active in sports his whole life. He earned a spot on the Canadian Water Polo team having played the sport locally for many years. He was also a longtime participant in competitive swimming. On a recreational level, Brian played handball for years at the Canoe Club. He also had a passion for the game of curling and spent countless happy hours on the ice at the Granite Curling Club. Some of Brians happiest days were spent at his cottage on the Lake of the Woods. He found peace and serenity in this corner of the world. The family, along with Brian, would like to express their sincere appreciation to Drs. Maxwell and Pacin, as well as the rest of the staff at the Victoria General Hospital for their dedication to Brians care. We also send a sincere thank you to the many friends who have given their support. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Manitoba Cancer and Treatment Foundation, 100 Olivia St., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9. Cremation has taken place according to Brians wishes. A celebration of his life will be held at Windsor Park United Church, 1062 Autumnwood Dr., on Friday, May 4 at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow. Arrangements entrusted to: Edward J. Coutu Ltd.
