Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySUSAN FRIESEN (nee HEPPNER) 1918 - 2001 With deep sadness and abiding love the family announces the passing of Susan Friesen (nee Heppner) on Saturday, April 28, 2001 at the Seven Oaks Hospital. She is survived by children, Larry of Winnipeg, Wesley of Vancouver, Al (Irmgard) of Winnipeg and Wanda (Frank) Vogt of Winnipeg. Also left to mourn are six grandchildren, Shannon and Josh Friesen, Christopher and Blake Friesen, Michael and Mark Vogt; one sister Mary Unger of Winkler, and two brothers-in-law, Jake Giesbrecht of Winkler and Edward Friesen of Morden. She was predeceased by son Graham in 1967 and husband Dave in 1996. Susan was born near Horndean, Man. On July 17, 1918, the seventh of nine siblings. She married and together with her husband farmed in the plum Coulee area. In 1975 they moved to Winnipeg to be closer as a family. Susan was full of life, and gave herself passionately to family and friends. She had an engaging sense of humour, boundless energy and loved to work in her home and out in her garden. As a mother, grandmother, and aunt she blessed us with her love, her courage and generosity of spirit. Without reserve she cared for our dad in his illness, and after his death ably took on the role of matriarch to her immediate as well as extended family. Above all she will be remembered for her strong faith in Gods love and her service to the church. Affectionately referred to as Martha from the scriptures, she served others, and had the gift of hospitality. Faspa and desserts appeared even when compromised by health in her last two years. Determined to regain her mobility, knowing the risks, she went into surgery sustained by her trust in God, and the deep love she had for her children. We are humbled by the devotion to us. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 3 at 10:30 a.m. at the McIvor Avenue Mennonite Brethren Church, 200 McIvor Ave., Winnipeg, Man. Interment will follow at 3:30 p.m. in the family plot in the Plum Coulee Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Wednesday evening, May 2 from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Klassen Funeral Chapel, 1897 Henderson Hwy., and at the church prior to the service. The family wishes to acknowledge the staff at Seven Oaks I.C.U., for their care and compassion extended to us over the past week.
