MENDEL ALVIN ROSENFELD It is with deep sadness and sorrow we announce the sudden and untimely passing of Mendel Rosenfeld on May 1, 2001 at the Seven Oaks Hospital at the age of 73. He leaves to mourn his devastated family, his beloved wife of 49 years, Shirley; children, Reeva (Allan) Nepon, Judi Rosenfeld, Len (Bonnie) Rosenfeld and Brenda (Philip) Halprin. He will be forever missed by his grandchildren, Jordan and Hillary Nepon, Kerry and Melanie Halprin, and Daniel Rosenfeld. Mendel also leaves to mourn his only sister Shirley Barsky, as well as sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and many special friends. Mendel was born on February 7, 1928 in Halifax, NS. At age 21, he moved to Winnipeg where he met his wife Shirley and they married in June 1952. Most of his career was spent as Executive Director, first at Rosh Pina Synagogue for 21 years and then at Bnay Abraham Synagogue for another seven years. After his retirement, he spent a lot of his free time doing volunteer driving for the CNIB and CancerCare Manitoba. He was an active member of the Masons. Mendel looked forward to his daily walking and breakfast club with his special buddies and loved to travel with his wife Shirley. His top priority in life was his wife, children and grandchildren. Mendel was the patriarch of his family and could be depended on at any time. Funeral services were held on May 2 at the Bnay Abraham Synagogue, officiated by Rabbi Weizman. Interment was at Bnay Abraham Cemetery. Pallbearers were sons-in-law, Allan Nepon, Philip Halprin; nephews, Ron Barsky, Jack Wolk, Shawn Wolk and Martin Wolk. If so desired, donations may be made to a charity of your choice. Shiva is being observed at 691 McAdam Avenue. Mendel will be forever remembered in our hearts and in our souls.
