MARY YORKEWICH Mary Yorkewich passed away peacefully on May 3, 2001 in Winnipeg, MB. She was born February 4, 1914 in Winnipeg. Raised and educated in Brandon, she graduated from Normal School in 1933. She was a member of St. Marys Ukrainian Catholic Church, sang in the church choir, taught Ukrainian school and gave violin and mandolin instruction. In 1935 she married Andrew. She taught school a few years. In 1946 she was the bookkeeper at Andys Body and Fender Shop, a business owned and operated by her husband, until suffering a stroke in 1968. She also enjoyed sewing, knitting and crocheting. In 1994 she moved to Charleswood Care Centre in Winnipeg. She was predeceased by her husband Andrew (Andy) in 1979 and an infant son in 1937. She will be greatly missed by her surviving daughter Natalie and son-in-law Harold of Winnipeg; granddaughters, Michelle Hutton of Winnipeg and Julianne Klein and husband Roland; and great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Eden of Kitchener, ON. Prayers will be held in Brandon at Brockie Donovan Funeral Home at 7:00 p.m. May 4, and funeral mass at St. Marys Ukrainian Catholic Church at 10:30 a.m. May 5, with Fr. Victor Yakowchuk officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or charity of your choice. Many thanks to the staff at The Charleswood Care Centre for their loving care, support and kindness over the years.
