He married Verna Silver on July 2, 1955, and they had seven wonderful children. He was employed with Paulin Chambers for 42 years, until his retirement in 1992. Johns most precious possessions in life were his family. He was devoted to his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and was proud of their accomplishments no matter how large or small. John loved the outdoors, especially the annual camping trips as his children were growing, to visit friends and relatives. He enjoyed hockey, fishing, curling and in his later years taking bus tours. John was at active volunteer for the Manitoba Wheelchair Sports Association for a number of years and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion. Funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 9 at the Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. with Captain Yvonne and Robin Borrows officiating. Interment and reception will follow at Chapel Lawn. Pallbearers will be Johns three grandsons, Jeffery, Steven, and Ricky; great-nephews Kenny, Brian and Cory. The family would like to thank the staff of Seven Oaks Hospital for their care. Should friends so desire, donations in Johns memory may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, 102-310 Broadway, Winnipeg, MB R3C 0S6. "A man really never dies while there are those on earth who love him. A man is never gone as long as there are those who remember him with fondness and as long as his memory evokes a wistful smile."
