Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryNORAH ELIZABETH MACKEN Peacefully at River East Personal Care Home on Thursday, May 3, 2001, Norah Elizabeth Macken, only daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles Richard Macken passed to eternal peace and serenity. Norah is survived by her older brother Bill; nephew Richard (Mary) great-niece Julie Warren (Richard) great-nephew Christopher (Colleen) and their son, her great-great-nephew Luke; great-niece Lisa (fiancee Martin). Her two infant brothers, Charles Stewart and John Keith predeceased Norah. Norah was born is St. Boniface, went through the Norwood School System completing her education at the Angus School of Commerce. Norah was employed by The Manitoba Government, working in the Legislative Building. Norah was the first secretary to the Deputy Minister of Public Works and was the first secretary to the Deputy Minister of the newly established Department of Highways. In 1970 Norah transferred to The Manitoba Government Computer Centre later called Manitoba Data Services retiring in 1985 from an administrative position. In 1977 Norah was the recipient of the Queen Elizabeth Silver Jubilee Medal. Norah was a member of St. Philips Church from her childhood to death. Norah was an avid curler, golfer, and gardener. Later in life Norah always took pleasure in working on her home on Kitson Street in her vegetable and flower gardens; which she missed when she became ill and moved into the River East Personal Care Home. During her retirement years Norah was a volunteer with the Age and Opportunity for ten years and was also a member of the Manitoba Government Retired Employees Association. The family would like to thank the staff of the River East Personal Care Home, Lay Minister Mark Scott, and Reverend Gordon Shields for their constant concern and care of Norah. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to do so may made a donation in Norahs name to the Alzheimer Society of Winnipeg, 120 Donald Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3C 4G2. In keeping with Norahs wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family interment will take place at a later date at the Elmwood Cemetery.
