JAMES LORNE KLAPP 1931 - 2001 James Lorne Klapp passed away suddenly at his home. Lorne was predeceased by his parents and four sisters, Jessie Fletcher, Margaret Butterfield, Mena Kerr, and Norah Bell. He leaves to mourn two sisters and three brothers-namely Connie (Eric) Pettitt, George Eleanor Klapp, Millie King, Allan Klapp, and Jack (Elly) Klapp; one brother-in-law Roy Kerr, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Lorne was born in McCreary, Man., in 1931 and after graduating at Kelwood High School, he joined the Hudson Bay Co. at the age of 18. His first position was as an apprentice clerk stationed at Cochenour, Ont., in the area of Red Lake. After serving at several Northern posts, Lorne was promoted to store manager, where he was responsible for opening the Snow Lake Post and later Drayton Valley in northern Alberta. He was soon advanced again to District Manager, where he worked for a number of years out of Montreal, Edmonton, and Winnipeg. Again he was advanced to Divisional Manager in Winnipeg. His last position was General Manager of the Wholesale Department in Canada, where he stayed until his retirement from The Bay. After his retirement from The Bay he worked at the Federal Bank where he did business counseling for several years. Lorne was sincerely a peoples man, who cared about people and his employees and thus gained their respect. Lorne never married, but he loved his large family of relatives and always enjoyed having them at his cottage at Sandy Hook. A memorial service will be held for Lorne at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., on Wednesday, May 9 at 12:30 p.m., with interment following the service. A reception for family and friends will be held in the Chapel Lawn Reception Centre.
