EZO GEORGE EBATA AUGUST 15, 1909 - MAY 4, 2001 On May 4, 2001, following a long and courageous battle, Dad succumbed to illnesses. Dad was surrounded by four generations of his family and heard the voices of all his children before his final journey to join Kinu, who predeceased him in October of 1989. Dad is survived by his children, Barry (June), Mariko (Dalton Chock), Akemi and Sandra; grandchildren, Kei, Karynne (Steve Nekwinda), Mike, Nick and Sara; great-grandchildren, Riley, Cassidy, Brody and Danica; sisters, Alice Nakamura and Mary Kato; four sisters-in-law; as well as many nieces, nephews and their families. Dad was predeceased by his wife Kinu; two brothers, a sister, three brothers-in-law and a niece. George was born, raised and operated a business in Vancouver before the Second World War. After the internment and dispersal of Japanese Canadians, Dad started over in Winnipeg and worked in carpentry, furniture building, and at MacMillan Bloedel until retiring in 1974. Dad enjoyed bowling, gardening, cards and family gatherings. The family wishes to thank the nursing staff of Units 5 and 7 on the 5th floor at Seven Oaks Hospital for their care of Dad in his final months. We also thank the staff of 2 West at Maples Personal Care Home where Dad had lived for the past three and a half years. Thank you also to Rev. Ulrich for his compassion and assistance. Funeral services will be held at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 9 at Manitoba Buddhist Church, 825 Winnipeg Ave. Interment will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 10 at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, 4000 Portage Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice. Arrangements entrusted to: CHAPEL LAWN FUNERAL HOME CEMETERY AND CREMATORIUM 885-9715
