LOUIS BIGGAR In the early morning on Monday, May 7, 2001, Louis Biggar passed away at the St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He was 93 years of age. The second youngest child of Robert Nessa Biggar and Catharine Louisa Guest, he was born in Winnipeg on October 11, 1907. He was predeceased by his siblings, Wilfred, Clifford, Mary, Gordon and Jean. He was also predeceased by his dearly beloved wife Ruth in 1991. Left to mourn his passing are his sister Esther Stables of Ana Cortes, Washington; his sons, Robert (and Carol) of Sandy Hook, Manitoba and Gordon of Montreal; his grandsons, Steve, (and Carolyn) Kevin, (and Shelley) and Paul (and Monica) of Winnipeg, and Glen of Calgary. He also leaves four dearly loved great-grandchildren, Scott, Kirsten, Braden and Emily. Lou had a lifelong interest in the transportation industry. He and his brother Cliff founded and operated Biggar Brothers trucking company from 1935 until 1955. From 1944 until his retirement in 1972, he worked in both Winnipeg and Montreal for the former Trans Canada Airlines and Air Canada. After retirement, Lou and Ruth spent eleven wonderful years at their winter home in Florida. After moving back to Winnipeg in 1983, they soon discovered the Smittys Womens Fastball team, and became ardent fans, attending both local and out of town games, tournaments and even the Canadian championships in New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and in British Columbia. After Ruths passing, Lous interest in the Smittys continued. He maintained friendships with the coaches, players and their families. Until the past few weeks, he continued to read extensively and to follow current events and sports of all kind. His mind was always active. He loved his family dearly, and enjoyed seeing them and hearing about the young ones lastest achievements. He was a dearly loved grandfather and great-grandfather. Grampa Lou will be greatly missed. Memories of him will be cherished by all of the family. There will be no formal service. The family will gather to honour and remember him privately. Flowers are gratefully declined. If friends so wish, donations could be made in his memory to the Winnipeg Humane Society.
