ALBERT CHARLES SHELVEY Albert Charles Shelvey died peacefully on Monday, May 7, 2001 after a brief time in the hospital. "Bert" was born April 16, 1914 on the Shelvey Homestead, NW 6-12-18, Elton Municipality, the 13th and youngest child of William and Alice Shelvey. Except for a short time spent mining in Northern Ontario, he lived his entire life in the Forrest and Brandon area. Bert married Kathaleen Thompson on November 20, 1939 and they lived on their farm for 50 years, moving to Brandon in 1989. His beloved Kay predeceased him in 1999. He was also predeceased by his parents; an infant son Albert Murray; son-in-law Garth Powell; four sisters and six brothers. Bert is survived by his family, Lloyd Shelvey, Diane Powell and Darlene and Cal Fairbairn, as well as his sister Vi Milling; brother Frank Shelvey; Kays brother and his wife Murray and Joan Thompson; sisters-in-law, Eva, Dora and Kay and numerous nieces and nephews. Cherishing his memory are five special granddaughters, Robyn and Marni Fairbairn and Stacey, Jodi and Nicole Powell. They will have many special memories of Grandpa, especially his everlasting love for a card game. Funeral service will be held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel on Friday, May 11 at 2:00 p.m. The service will be conducted by close family friend Pastor Steve Wilson. Interment will follow in Humesville Cemetery. Longtime friends Darcy Hickson, Danny Kowbel, Dennis Smith, Lyall Croy, Albert McLean and Art Simpson will serve as pallbearers. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Humesville Cemetery Trust Fund, care of R.M. of Elton, Forrest, MB R0K 0W0 or a charity of your choice.
