FREDRICK PAUL BAUSCHKE On Wednesday, May 16, 2001 at the Beausejour Hospital, Fred, aged 84, passed away following a courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by his four sisters, Bertha Dehn, Selkirk, MB, Minnie (Herman) Bloch, Erna Reinhardt, and Gertrude Cookson all of BC; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Fred was predeceased by his parents, Paul and Amelia (Hertha) sister Augusta Ferchoff; and brothers, August, Willy and Erich. Fred was born on April 9, 1917, in Dencross, MB. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He was an active member of St. Johns Lutheran Church, Greenwald which he helped construct. He played in the brass band and sang in the choir for many years. Fred farmed until his retirement in the late 1970s. He was one of the last pioneers in the Dencross area to work with oxen. During the winter months, his dad and brothers would take the horse teams to the bush camp. Being the youngest, Fred would be left at home to do the chores which meant cleaning the barns. To make the job easier, he secretly trained two ox steers and did not use the wheelbarrow anymore. Fred was a jack-of-all-trades, from farm work to house work. He was often called upon by many friends and neighbours to help with butchering; made many trips to Grand Marais buying pickerel and delivering to the neighbours. Many friends enjoyed his smoked fish or sauerkraut. In the 1980s, Fred retired to Beausejour where he lived until his demise. The family would like to thank Dr. Daphne Schmidt and the hospital staff for the care they gave Fred. Funeral service will be held at St. Johns Lutheran Church, Greenwald on Saturday, May 19 at 2:00 p.m. with viewing one hour prior to the service. Rev. Arleen Berg officiating. Interment to follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Johns Lutheran Church Memorial Fund or to a charity of ones choice. SOBERING FUNERAL CHAPEL & CREMATORIUM in care of arrangements. Phone 268-3510 or Man. Toll Free 1-877-776-2220.
