EDITH FRANCES TSCHANZ (nee HATCH) Edith Frances Tschanz (nee Hatch) passed away after a brave battle with cancer on May 10, 2001 at Mt. Edward Court. Born January 12, 1910 in Hartney, MB, daughter of Jeffery Hale and Hephzibah Beulah (Adams) Hatch; she was the last remaining member of a family of 11, with five brothers and five sisters. Edith was also predeceased by her beloved husband George in 1991. Edith began her teaching career during the Depression, teaching in rural Manitoba and Seven Oaks in Winnipeg. She married George Tschanz on December 26, 1950. They made their home in Galt, (now Cambridge), ON, where she resumed her teaching career at Highlands School. After Edith had taught a total of 28 years, she and George retired from their respective positions and moved to their "Dream House" in the Oak Bay area of Victoria, BC. Their yard became a floral showcase that gave pleasure to many. After George died, Edith lived in "The Wellesley" until March 2000, when she moved to Mt. Edward Court. Edith was a member of the former Metropolitan United Church and The Dorothy Whitehead U.C.W. for whom she made many "Barbie Doll" outfits as well as for numerous members of the family. "Aunt Ede" became a family historian, a source of interesting anecdotes, and someone who remembered birthdays and other important dates. She was an avid reader and a lifelong advocate for children. She will be greatly missed and mourned by numerous nieces, nephews and her many friends. A memorial service will be held at McCALL BROS. FLORAL CHAPEL, Johnson and Vancouver Streets, on Wednesday, May 23 at 3:00 p.m. A reception will follow in the Graham and Torrey McCall Family Centre.
