DENA LOUISE SONLEY With deep sadness we announce Moms passing May 9, 2001. She is remembered with love by her three children, Carol Maynard of Edmonton, Barry Melville (Val) and Lois Schoemperlen (Jim) of Winnipeg; her husband Stewart and his family; her sisters, Joyce Carlson (Glenn) of Portage, Lois Wheatley (Duncan) of Wawa, ON; her brother Terry Wall (Ruth) of Winnipeg and their families; her grandchildren, Kevin Berndtsson (Michol) and Cally Maynard of Edmonton, and Kori Berndtsson (Ruth) of Germany, Carrie, Brian and Jennifer Melville of Winnipeg; and three great-grandchildren, Yasu Mali of Australia, Lena Berndtsson of Germany and Kyle Berndtsson of Edmonton. Mom was born July 21, 1924 at Clearwater, MB to Olive Caughlin and Harold Wall. Although she lived in Winnipeg since 1955 that area was "home", and she maintained friendships and close ties throughout her life to her farming roots. Her fabulous musical talent was nurtured as a little girl sitting under the piano listening to her dad and relatives play piano and fiddle. Only playing by ear she entertained Winnipeggers during the 60s, playing professionally with her own band. Mom taught school south of Killarney before her kids were born and after we were grown she went back to school and graduated from nursing at age 50. She took pleasure in simple things, like enjoying nature at Stewart and Moms Rock Lake cottage, writing letters and fun poetry, attending fowl suppers, being proud of her grandchildren and loving up Stewart and Moms special friend, "Kitty". She worked so hard while her family was growing up, both at home and always at jobs outside her home. She cared so much for all of us. We will always remember and thank her for her warm and loving nature. Moms ashes will be buried at Crystal City at a later date. Please join us to celebrate her life, and share stories and pictures Monday, May 28 at 8:00 p.m. at Assiniboine Park Conservatory. Flowers gratefully declined. If so wished, please donate to The Winnipeg Humane Society, 5 Kent Rd., Winnipeg, MB R2L 1X3, or Canadian Diabetes Association, 102 - 310 Broadway, Winnipeg, MB R3C 0S6.
