DOUG MARKS Peacefully, on May 10, 2001 with his family at his side, Doug passed away at the age of 61 years at the Rock Lake District Hospital. He will be lovingly remembered by his devoted wife Gaynor (nee Curle) and two daughters Kim (Bill) and Janice (Mamert). Doug is also survived by his three brothers, three sisters, and their families: Leona (Jack) Foster, Stan (Ann) Marks, and Lawrence (Joyce) Marks, all of Winnipeg; Marge (Bob) Drysdale of Brookdale; Bob (Wendy) Marks of Saanichton, BC; and Barbie (Greg) Graham of Wellwood. Doug was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Elsie (nee Hanson) and his brothers Orville (Rhoda), Lorne (Eleanor) and Raymond. Doug was born and raised in Newdale, Manitoba. He moved to Winnipeg in 1959 and began a 39 year long career at Manitoba Hydro. He married Gaynor in 1971, and they moved to Transcona where they raised their family. In the six years following his retirement, Doug enjoyed his home on the lake at Rock Lake Beach near Cartwright, Manitoba. Doug was an avid baseball player, starting his amateur career with the Balmoral Orioles as a player and coach. Doug was also active in Transcona baseball as a player, umpire and junior team coach. After his retirement he played slo-pitch with the Manitoba Coyotes. Doug was also active in curling in the Mens League at the Grain Exchange Curling Club in Winnipeg. Doug enjoyed travelling and meeting new people; he was equally happy at his home on the lake sharing time with family and close friends. Dougs family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude to Dr. Bester and the nurses and staff at Rock Lake Hospital for their compassion and care.
