(BERT) EGESZ Peacefully, on Saturday, May 12, 2001, at Seven Oaks Hospital, our dearly beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Bartholomew (Bert) Egesz passed away at the age of 93 years. Bert will be lovingly remembered by his wife Mary; daughter Nancy Chomiak (Ken), grandchildren Daniel and Abby of Calgary, AB; sons, Dennis of Winnipeg, Gerald (Nadine), grandchildren, Sara, Lori and Candace of Dufresne, MB, Sidney (Arvadell), grandchildren, Charlene, Scott and Stephen of Winnipeg, MB; three step-sons, Ivin, grandchildren Tara and Mark, Alvin (Joanne), grandchildren, Stacey and Randy, George (Mandy), grandchildren, Jason and Cory and two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife Julia in 1973, one brother and two sisters. Bert was born in Arnot, Hungary in 1908 to Paul and Magdelena Egesz. After university in Hungary completing fine arts he immigrated to Canada in 1928 and continued his education with drafting courses in Saskatoon. During the thirties he worked on a farm in Kipling, SK. Following his marriage to Julia Hegedus they moved to Howardville, MB and took up farming. In 1945, they moved to Winnipeg where he continued to farm and run a lumber operation in the Riverton area, providing lumber for various furniture companies in Winnipeg. Years later, Bert subdivided his farm in Winnipeg, currently named Tyndall Park, and began housing construction. As a result of this development the City of Winnipeg named a street after him, Egesz Street. In 1975, Bert married Mary Semenek and together they enjoyed their retirement years. He was also an avid sportsman who loved fishing and hunting at his cabin at Pointe Du Bois with his best friend John. He also loved to dance and play music on his accordion and harmonica. Berts hobby was painting landscapes of his most frequented fishing spots. Bert will be fondly remembered by his neighborhood for his numerous walks around his former farm property. The family would like to thank the dedicated nursing staff on Units 1, 2, 3 at Seven Oaks Hospital for their caring, kindness and compassion. Viewing will be held on Tuesday, May 15, between 7:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, May 16, at 2:00 p.m. also at Cropo Chapel with Rev. Roy Currie officiating. Interment will follow at Brookside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Berts memory to a charity of their choice.
