JOANNA DE RIDDER (SISTER IGNATIUS o.s.u.) March 21, 1913 - May 12, 2001 On Saturday, May 12, 2001, Joanna De Ridder, aged 88 years, passed away after a short illness at the St. Boniface General Hospital. Joanna was predeceased by her parents and her three brothers all of Belgium. Sister Joanna is survived by the Sisters of her Religious Order; the Ursuline Sisters of Tildonk and their Associates; two sisters-in-law; several very devoted and loving nieces and nephews and their spouses, as well as grand and great-grand nieces and nephews. In addition to family members she is survived by long time friends and teaching colleagues, in Belgium and Canada. Sister Joanna was born and educated in Belgium, came to Canada in 1951. Her education in the fine arts coupled with her natural artistic ability and imagination enabled her to envision and to create beauty out of very little. These artistic qualities were shared very generously, which, in turn, made a significant contribution to those whose lives she touched. Prayer Vigil will take place on Thursday, May 17 at 7:00 p.m. in the Christ the King Church, 847 St. Marys Rd., with Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, May 18 at 10:00 a.m., also in the Church, with Reverend Fr. Renato Pasinato, presiding. The rite of committal will take place in St. Gerards Parish Church, Bruxelles, MB, Friday at 3:00 p.m., with interment to follow in the Parish Cemetery, with Reverend Fr. Firmin Michiels officiating. Sincere gratitude is extended to her family physician and medical staff at the St. Boniface Hospital Emergency and 6A South with special thanks for excellent care provided to Sister Joanna by the WRHA through the Home Care personnel. Flowers are gratefully declined but donations may be made in Sisters name to either The Arthritis Society, 105 - 386 Broadway, Winnipeg, MB R3C 3R6 or to The Heart and Stroke Foundation, 301 - 352 Donald St. Winnipeg, MB R3B 2H8.
