LAURENT ARTHUR DESMEDT Calmly, after a courageous battle, Mr. Larry Desmedt, loving husband of Mel Desmedt, passed away at Victoria Hospital on May 14, 2001 at the age of 79 years. Born January 21, 1922 in Winnipeg, MB. Larry was predeceased by his brothers, Mickey of Windsor, ON, and Al of Winnipeg. He is survived by his wife Mel Desmedt; and two daughters, Sandy and her husband Gord Ferens of Sudbury, ON, Carol and her husband Gary Kaminski of Winnipeg; and four grandchildren, Michelle, Michael, Chris and Jenny. He is also remembered by his two sisters, Mrs. Jean Kerweiga of Winnipeg, Mrs. Irene Nelson of Calgary, AB; and many numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and in-laws. Mr. Desmedt served in the Second World War overseas from 1942 to 1946 as a military Police Officer with the Canadian Provost Corps. He retired from the Department of National Defence in Winnipeg on December 31, 1986, after 30 and one-half years. Memorial mass will be celebrated on Thursday, May 17 at 1:00 p.m. in St. Emile Roman Catholic Church, located at 556 St. Annes Rd. The Reverend Father Peters officiating. Interment to take place in Green Acres Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, Mel and family would appreciate donations to Victoria Hospital.
