Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryOLIVE KARSGAARD (nee PIERCE) August 7, 1921- May 15, 2001 Olive Karsgaard, beloved wife of Dr. Andrew Karsgaard, passed away peacefully at the Convalescent Home of Winnipeg on May 15, 2001. Olive will be remembered for her vitality, wit and for the passionate way she embraced life. During her high school years, Olive and three friends won the city speed skating championships four years in a row. She also enjoyed volleyball, tennis and swimming. A lover of music, Olive played the piano and sang. After graduating from the Winnipeg General Hospital with an R.N., Olive married Andrew. The couple formed a vital partnership in a medical ministry. Together they serve the Lord, first in a mission hospital in Tofino, B.C., then for 16 years in mission hospitals in Pakistan. Olives support was essential in the building of Bach Christian Hospital in the foothills of the Himalayas which continues to serve the people of Pakistan. Upon the familys return to Winnipeg, Olive was active in the Christian Womens Club and in Bethesda Church life. She continued her involvement in the ministry by supporting Andrew in his role as Medical Director of T.E.A.M., as well as maintaining the home with five active children during his many absences. Olive leaves to mourn her passing and to cherish her memory her loving husband, Andrew; her children, David, Louise, Beth (Erwin), Lynne (Brian), and Paul (Janet) her grandchildren, Andrew, Philip, Rachel (Rick), Joshua, Ilse, Nathan, Heather, Mark, Jonathan, and Kaitlyn; her great-granddaughter, Drew. She is also survived by her brother, Glen (Daisy) her sister, Irma (Stan) a sister-in-law, Jean; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends. She was predeceased by her brother Lloyd and a grandson Dirk. A memorial service will be held Friday, May 18 at 1:00 p.m at Bethesda Church at Grant and Oxford with a reception immediately following the service. Olive will be laid to rest in the Garden of Prayer in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens during a private family interment. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of the Convalescent Home of Winnipeg for the special care given to Olive for the past 15 years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made for the Bach Christian Hospital to T.E.A.M., Airways P.O. Box 56030, Calgary, AB T2E 8K5.
