MARY PATTERSON (nee ZWOLAK) It is with great sadness, the family announces the passing of Mary Patterson, age 88 years, on May 12, 2001 at the Winnipegosis General Hospital, with her loving family by her side. Mary was predeceased by her husband Sieffert in 1967; three sisters, Annie Markus, Nellie Balabas and Carolyn Gushe. She is survived by her son Marvin Patterson (Elva) of Winnipegosis, MB; daughters, Marvis Kilgour (Don) of Richer, MB, and Elizabeth Patterson of Vernon, BC; sisters, Effie Mazur (Winnipeg), Lena Greer (Vancouver) and brothers, Paul Zwolak (Winnipeg) and Andrew Zwolak (Mary) (Toronto). "Baba" will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Mary was born in July 1912 and raised in the Winnipegosis area. She was the daughter of Maria and Jacob Zwolak, who had emmigrated from the Ukraine in 1899. Mary married Sieffert Patterson in 1930; and he built their home in the town of Winnipegosis, in which they raised three children. Their livelihood was earned from fishing, which became a great part of their life for nearly 40 years. When Sieffert passed away, Mary began working in the kitchen of the local hospital, where she worked for approximately seven years. Mary received great pleasure from spending time with her friends and family. She loved to garden, play cards and one of her greatest joys was to watch and feed her "feathered friends." Prayers will be held on Thursday, May 17 at 7:30 p.m. at the Ukrainian Catholic Church in Winnipegosis. The funeral service will be held on Friday, May 18 at 3:00 p.m. at the same church, with Fr. Barowec officiating, followed by interment. Seven grandsons will be the pallbearers and cross bearer. The family would like to thank Drs. Johnson and Goso and the staff of the Winnipegosis General Hospital for their care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.
