ALVIN SLOTIN Alvin Slotin passed away peacefully on May 14, 2001. Al was predeceased by Mona, his beloved wife of 50 years, sisters, Elizabeth, Becky and Sophie Slotnikov. Al was survived by his sister Sadie Pesick of Southfield, Michigan who passed away suddenly May 23, 2001; children, Arnold (Sandra), Sharon (Don) and Leslie; grandchildren, Tracy, Geoffrey, Vincent, Jennifer, Christine, Jennifer and Katelyn and companion Sylvia. Alvin was born in Old Kildonan on March 22, 1916. With partner and good friend Sam Gilman they founded and built a successful bakery business, The Donut House. He retired at 57 and enjoyed spending winters in Florida with Mona, entertaining their many friends, playing bridge, and golfing. Throughout his sickness he always kept a smile on his face and made the best of every day. He was dedicated to his family. Some of his favourite times were weekly family get togethers for dinner, telling jokes, meeting with his buds at the "zoo" and Saturday morning breakfasts at the Windmill with family, friends and Beverley. A graveside service at Shaarey Zedek Cemetery with Rabbi Green was held May 16. Special thanks to Dr. Lorne Brandes and all his caregivers especially Tannis. For those who desire, donations may be made to The Mona and Alvin Slotin Cancer Research Fund at the Jewish Foundation of Manitoba, C400 - 123 Doncaster St., Winnipeg R3N 2B2, phone 477-7525.
