Marion was born in Chicago, IL, on February 9, 1906, the third child in a family of six. Later the family moved to Stonewall, MB to be closer to other family members who had emigrated from England. As a young girl she spent many happy hours beside her mother learning to sew, knit, embroider and crochet. Things for which she later became known, silk embroidered wedding veils, crocheted tablecloths and handmade quilts, are all items cherished by family members. Some of these items have been used in displays at the Dugald Costume Museum. Marion also had a "tomboy" side: raised with three brothers, she loved all sports and playing games was her specialty. Marion attended Stonewall Collegiate in 1924. It was there, after tripping and falling on the cement steps, she was picked up by a young gentleman named Frank Weeks. Seven years later they were married and moved to Winnipeg. Their three sons, Jack, Ted and Keith were born there. In 1981, Marion and Frank and their family celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary. Marion was a great cook. When she became active in the Norwood United Church Ladies Aid, she organized Teas, Suppers and Socials for many years. A familiar expression heard often, according to the boys, was, "Dont touch that baking - its going to the church!" She was a professional Milliner. Marion served on the Board of Directors of the Fred Douglas Personal Care Home, was Chairperson for the United Church Home for Girls, was a member of the Norwood United Church Ladies Aid and the Stewardship Committee, as well, she held membership in the Orange Lodge. Marion was predeceased by her husband Frank, son Keith, parents and siblings. She is survived by her sons, John Mathew (Shirley), and Charles Harold (Ruth) five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law Jessie Stanbridge. A memorial service will be held in Thomson Funeral Chapels, 669 Broadway, on Friday, May 18 at 1:00 p.m., with Rev. Susan Tough officiating. Donations in memory of Marion may be made to the Hillcrest Place Personal Care Home (Palliative Care Room), 930 - 26th St., Brandon, MB R7B 2B8. THOMSON FUNERAL CHAPELS 783-7211
