ISABELLE (MICKEY) CASSELS

Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryISABELLE (MICKEY) CASSELS (nee McMEEKIN) Peacefully, on May 16, 2001, Isabelle (Mickey) Cassels passed away at the Grace Hospital. Mickey was predeceased by her husband Robert (Scotty) Cassels in September 1980. She was also predeceased by her brothers, Leslie, Percy, and Sydney. She will be fondly remembered by her daughters, Patricia (Jack) Robson, grandson Jason (Marion) Heather Cure (Real) and granddaughters, Stephanie, Janelle and Lynne (Clement) Nadeau, grandson Daniel; son Duncan (Gail) Cassels and grandsons, Michael (Vicky) and Alan; sisters, Grace Hill (Howard) and Kay Loeffler as well as many nieces and nephews. Ellen Mary Isabelle (McMeekin) Cassels was born on Friday, June 13, 1913 to James Brodie and Henrietta (Hartley) McMeekin at Chatham, Quebec. In 1914, when she was an infant, she, along with her parents and two brothers, Leslie and Percy, moved west to Wimmer, Saskatchewan, where they homesteaded. The family grew with the additions of two girls, Grace and Kathleen, and one boy, Sydney. She received her education at the Islay School in Wimmer, Saskatchewan. In 1942, she moved to Toronto, Ontario, where she was employed assisting with the war effort. After the war ended, she moved to Winnipeg in 1945 and was employed by Deer Lodge Hospital where she met her future husband, Robert (Scotty) Cassels. They resided in the Kirkfield Park area for the last 56 years. Mickey was very active in the organization and beginning of the Kirkfield Park Community Centre. In 1982, she joined the Royal Canadian Legion #4, St. James Branch. Mickey was a very caring and kind mother and grandmother, putting everyone ahead of herself, even the birds on her deck were fed everyday. She thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. They were her pride and joy. Memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 19, at 12:30 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. Interment will follow in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens with a gathering for family and friends in the Chapel Lawn Reception Centre. The family would like to thank Grace Hospital nurses, doctors and staff in the Emergency Department, and 3N, and Dr. Karen Moran de Muller for their care and compassion. Flowers are gratefully declined. If friends so desire, donations in Mickeys memory may be made to the Grace Hospital Foundation, 300 Booth Drive, Winnipeg MB R3J 3M7.
