ROSE AMELIA (MILLIE) HARDING (nee COLEY) Peacefully, on May 16, 2001 at the River East Personal Care Home, Millie Harding, our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away at age 99 years. Millie lived a full life. She had seen an entire century pass: one full of wonder and technical change; the struggles of the Great Depression; the horror and sadness of the two World Wars; the welcoming and enjoyment of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Millie was born in England on December 31, 1901 where she spent her early childhood, until immigrating to Canada at the age of nine. Along with her family, they settled into their home on Prince Rupert Street, Morse Place, Winnipeg. She was the eldest of seven children, Dorothy, Oliver, Ernie, Henry, Tom and Eddie. Millie married Percy in 1925 and spent the next 69 years sharing what life had to offer. They had a long and happy life together. They often went on trips to visit family and friends and in their retirement years, spent many weeks each winter in Spain and England. Millie had two sons, Jim (married Shirley) and John (married Elisabeth) and seven grandchildren, Deb (Keith), Jeff (Cathy), Tom (Janine), Bruce (Janet), Michael (Rose), Allison, Martin (Robin) and 12 great-grandchildren. Millie and Percy lived for 65 years in their home on Victoria Avenue East in Transcona where everyone knew and helped one another. Her many friends and family were the central focus of her life, she loved to visit and have visitors. There are many fond memories of holiday dinners with everyone packed into that house, passing the gravy meant involving at least eight people and a couch. She loved to knit and there are probably not too many people who were part of her life that didnt have something knitted by her. We remember very vividly her sitting on the fold-out couch in the front sunroom, the needles clicking away, occasionally stopping to look down or yank out another length of yarn out of the bag. For those who knew Millie well, knew her as a good wife, mother and grandmother, a strong woman who let you know what was on her mind and was always there to help out when needed. She was a true Coley. We will miss her. Flowers are gratefully declined, however if you so wish, memorial donations to a charity of your choice would be appreciated. Funeral service to be held on Tuesday, May 22 at 1:00 p.m. at the Transcona Funeral Chapel, 1800 Day St., with Rev. Victoria Shaw-Zdanowski officiating. Interment to follow at Transcona Cemetery. Transcona Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements.
