ANNE ISOBEL MONCRIEFF (nee MONTAGUE) Our dear mother died peacefully on May 16, 2001 at the St. Boniface General Hospital in Winnipeg after a brief illness. "Nancy", a life long resident of Winnipeg, was born January 19, 1911 to Anne and Percival Montague. She was predeceased by her older sister and best friend Eleanor Wintemute. Graduating from the University of Manitoba in 1932 with a Bachelor of the Arts, she pursued a lifetime of enjoyment in Literature and the Arts, through her support of the many Manitoba based Musical, Dance and the Theatrical activities that she so loved. Nancy met and married her lifes partner of 65 years, Ernest Hutchison Moncrieff on May 18, 1935. She is survived by their three sons, Hugh (Paula), Murray and Colin. Not one to sit at home, she played polo at the St. Charles Country Club in her youth and later in life pursued a modest career in downhill skiing to keep up with the male members of her family. She enjoyed 30 years of pleasure at the Box Car Chalet and bird sanctuary adjacent to Riding Mountain National Park. She took great pleasure, since her childhood, in the much anticipated summer months at the Montague Island camp on the Lake of the Woods, with her whole family. One of the greatest joys in Nancys life was the extended family of grandchildren and great-grandchildren with which she and Ernie were blessed. Surviving are her two grandchildren, Hugh Moncrieff (Jennifer) of Winnipeg and Carla Marlyn (Chris) of Calgary as well three great-grandchildren, Melissa and Michael Marlyn and William Moncrieff. The dear friends that she made, and companionship she enjoyed, at her weekly high stakes bridge club games were also a great pleasure to her. Mum was blessed with good health throughout her life. Her love of nature, her wild bird feeding and passion for plants and gardening kept her very active. Her spirited and informed conversations and great sense of humour were a pleasure to all and will be greatly missed. Her family and many friends gathered to celebrate Nancys 90th birthday last January. What a wonderful party it was, and what a wonderful memory for all to cherish in the years to come. The family wishes to acknowledge the caring and attentive 5th floor staff at the St. Boniface Hospital, and extend a special thanks to the compassionate care given to Mum by the Drake Medox Personnel. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, May 24 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Georges Crescentwood Anglican Church, 168 Wilton St. Interment will be held on Thursday, May 24 at 1:00 p.m. in the St. Johns Cathedral Cemetery, 135 Anderson Ave. Should friends desire, a donation in Nancys name may be made to a charity of your choice, or to the Winnipeg Foundation, 301-161 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, MB., R3B OY4.
